One Day Without Shoes

Yesterday, I joined thousands of people around the world and walked around barefoot. So that kids don’t have to.

Kids all over the world don’t have shoes. They can’t afford them, can’t access them, there’s a variety of reasons. Shoes protect these kids from getting cuts and injuries, from transmitting hookworm and other foot diseases, and last but so important, many children are not allowed to go to school without shoes. That’s why I’ve joined up with TOMS shoe company, where for every pair you purchase, they give one to a child in need. They team up with the local schools and organizations in the countries where they work, and hand place the shoes on the children’s feet. It’s life changing.

Join us next year for One Day Without Shoes by signing up HERE. Be sure to check out TOMS shoes! Not only do they serve an incredible purpose, but they are stylish and also the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. And no, they are not paying me to say this, I swear. I’m saying this simply because I truly believe that it’s a great cause. Because I want my fashion to reflect the heart of God, the reaching out and touching his children for Him.. and giving them a better life. -beth

project 365: day 51

for real.. this is the only photo i took yesterday! someone can spank me. i don’t have any good excuses so i won’t try to muster any up. i didn’t bring my camera with me when i left to spend the day with my mom. spank me again! anyway. this is me at panera bread. one of my favorite places to eat and hang out, btw.
do you see my TOMS shoe drop necklace? it represents the thousands of brand new shoes that TOMS gives away to children who don’t have shoes. for every shoe you buy from TOMS, they donate a brand new pair to a child in need. why shoes? because shoes prevent children from getting diseases and cuts and infections on their feet. in a lot of places, kids aren’t allowed to go to school without shoes. so whenever you purchase a pair of shoes from TOMS for yourself, you’re giving a child a chance at a better life. who knows? they might become the president of their country. or start a humanitarian effort to make a better future for the kids in their country. all because you gave them a pair of shoes. so if you aren’t a TOMS shoe-wearer already, i highly recommend a skip and jump over to their website to check them out. i have two pair and they’re the most comfortable shoes i’ve ever worn. and very practical. oh and did i mention very stylish? Give away! Start Something That Matters + $50 to the charity of your choice

I am super jazzed about this give away. Blake Mycoskie – the founder and chief shoe giver of TOM’s shoe company has released a book. For those of you who don’t know about TOM’S, it’s an awesome shoe company that gives away a brand new pair of shoes to kids who cannot afford them in countries where they are most needed.. for every single pair of shoes that they sell. They call it One for One. I’m a big fan of TOM’s and that’s why this is SO exciting for me! The book is called Start Something That Matters. I was chosen to join their program “books for bloggers”, where I received two copies of the book. One is mine to keep and read.. the other to give away to one of you guys! The deal was I have to write an honest review on my blog, and on the book’s amazon page. I’m so excited to read the book and as soon as I’m finished I’ll write up the review and be sure to let you all know!
So here is the trailer for his book:

Tom’s One Day Without Shoes

One day without shoes! People all over the world went without shoes today to support the kids who don’t have shoes. The shoe company Tom’s Shoes has a one for one program. Every pair of shoes you buy from them, they make a pair for a kid who can’t afford them. Going without shoes can be really hard.. and dangerous.. especially in under-developed countries. Kids often have to walk to school and to clean water, and walking so much barefoot poses dangers of illness, cuts and infections. Tom’s steps in by delivering quality shoes to those kids. It’s such an awesome cause.. so I’m showing my support by going without shoes.. in honor of all the kids. -beth
