Raindrops on Roses – er- Spiderwebs…

It rained during the night. And I woke up to a world covered in mist and raindrops. It was foggy and cool and you could feel the moisture in the air. And then I saw all these shimmering jewels in the grass. I ran over and there were all these little tiny spiderwebs covered in shining raindrops. It took my breath away.

I love rain. It’s refreshing. I love how the world smells after a rain. In fact, that is my favorite smell in the world. I love walking in the rain. I think it reminds me of God. Like little kisses falling down from heaven onto me. Little gems of beauty. The cleansing, the fresh air, the nourished earth – it all reminds me of what God does in my soul.

life bursting forth.

one of the best things about spring is how the greens push their way out of the dirt and burst into vibrant life. i look forward to it every year and this year was no exception. so when i saw that it was happening, i was so excited to create some photos of it.. and it just so happened that the pink blossoms are starting to fall off the tree right above. beautiful.

damp earth and new life.. color and sunshine.. spring is a beautiful thing. here’s the catch.. it’s still winter! i think north carolina has it’s seasons mixed up. but i’ll just enjoy it as it comes. yesterday i sat out by the pool for awhile drinking passion iced tea and feeling the sunshine and it made me very excited about when i can splash into the water! i felt the water and almost hollered, it’s still freezing. maybe not just yet… =}

“..he dawns on them like the morning light, like the sun shining forth on a cloudless morning, like rain that makes grass to sprout from the earth.” 2 Samuel 23:4

maybe that’s one reason we love spring so much. because it’s somewhere we can see and feel traces of God. dawning upon us like light.. refreshing us like the rain. making us beautiful.
soak it up. enjoy every flower. feel the sun on your face. listen to the rain. and be in love with the one who is making it all beautiful..

beauty in the rain.

yesterday was one of those rainy days. not the kind that have a torrential downpour and then it’s sunshine again. but the kind that it just drizzles all day long. dark clouds and damp earth and raindrops on everything. the air is humid and a little cold and the sky seems to be so close.. as if it’s trying to hold you in an embrace.
i love days like that. they make me want to sit at a coffeeshop and read. or talk to friends. and thats exactly what i did yesterday. i finished reading a book called “crazy love” by francis chan. and i’m going to share a little bit of it with you because it’s just that good.

“A person who is obsessed with Jesus is more concerned with his or her character than comfort. Obsessed people know that true joy doesn’t depend on circumstances or environment; it is a gift that must be chosen and cultivated, a gift that ultimately comes from God (James 1:2-4).” -Crazy Love, by Francis Chan

“A person who is obsessed with Jesus knows that the best thing he can do is to be faithful to his Savior in every aspect of his life, continually saying, “Thank you!” to God. An obsessed person knows there can never be intimacy if he is always trying to pay God back or work hard enough to be worthy. He revels in his role of child and friend of God.” -Crazy Love, by Francis Chan

i feel like i could quote the whole book on here, but i won’t. why don’t you just read it and then you’ll understand why? :) Crazy Love. love is crazy. especially when you think of it that an all-powerful, perfect, holy and incredible God choses to love us, relentlessly, unselfishly, and unendingly? that is crazy.

what if we dared to love him back? what if we dared to open up our hearts and accept that crazy love he offers so freely and desires so deeply to give? what if we stopped trying to earn his love, but actually just stopped and accepted it? not trying to prove anything? realizing that we could never, ever, ever earn it.

“There comes a moment when people who have been dabbling in religion (Man’s search for God), suddenly draw back. Supposing we really found Him? We never meant for it to come to that! Worse still, supposing He had found us?” -C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

are we scared of finding God? scared of Him finding us? of showing him the raw core of us?
“People who are obsessed (with Jesus) are raw with God; they do not attempt to mask the ugliness of their sins or their failures. Obsessed people don’t put it on for God; He is their safe place, where they can be at peace.” -Francis Chan, Crazy Love

the only way we could love him back like that – crazy, obsessively, is by accepting his love into our beings, our souls, the core of who we are. and he is just waiting for us to do it. for real.

We love, because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19

don’t be scared to accept that love. i know it can be hard sometimes. to accept love. especially from a God that big. but you’ll never regret it if you do. never.

rainboarding! sugar mountain.

next weekend we are going on a snowboarding trip at snowshoe ski area. so this past saturday we had planned to go up to sugar mtn to warm up a little bit before the trip. well.. it rained. all day. so john, daryl, sarah and i just headed up to the area anyway, hoping the rain would stop and figuring we could hang out at coffee shops till it did.

which, of course, is exactly what we did. it was a perfect coffee shop day. foggy, rain drizzling, a little breezy.. just .. not such a great ski day.

at the coffee shop they were selling these necklaces made with a nicaraguan coin. and the proceeds from the sale went back to fund a mission in nicaragua who help the hungry and needy. i couldn’t resist.

finally the rain stopped and we got to go for the night session. it sprinkled a little bit and the snow was extremely wet but it was still fun.

while we were waiting for the night session in the lodge, a hillbilly bluegrass band graced us with their live performance. after a couple songs we all thought we were going to go mad. after an hour and a half of it, we did.

it was dark of course and very foggy, so the lights streaking through the fog and the silhouettes of dark trees and people made the feel very eerie and adventurous. (for a little redneck ski area with barely any snow. hey, its good to have imagination!)

(excuse the mediocre quality of the last four photos, they’re iPhone pics.)
have a happy monday full of rain and coziness!

“… let the rain wash away the pain of yesterday… ”

Rain. It can be the most beautiful, cleansing thing in the world.
It can be the most depressing thing in the world, too.
Or the hardest battle you’ve ever fought.
Rain is used as a metaphor for many things. Pain. Battles. Storms.
Today I choose to let it be beautiful.
Cleansing.
Healing.
“Tears of hope run down my skin.. tears for You that will not dry. They magnify the One within.. and let the outside slowly die. Oh, remember when it rained. I felt the ground and looked up high and called your name. Oh, remember when it rained.. in the water I remain. Running down..” – Josh Groban

PS. If you haven’t noticed yet.. My language is photos.. and music. -beth
